EIT data recorders and weather stations can be accessed via the Iridium network of communication satellites. This means you can view real time data, and upload information from a remote site no matter where on earth your system is located. Iridium is a constellation of sixty - six, low ( 700 kms ) earth  orbiting satellites which provide voice, fax, data, SMS and other services.  EIT can provide data recorders supplied with Motorola L Band Data Modems for communication from a PC. Communication to a EIT data recorder is simple using the EIT data recorder software.
There are two ways to connect to and EIT data recorder using the Iridium network 1. Simply dial out from your PC through a standard terrestrial gateway 2. Direct via L - band modem attached to PC  (Under development August 26th, 2003) EIT will shortly offer direct data communication  from PC to data recorder. This systems operates by placing L band satellite modems at both the PC end and the data recorder end in the field.  This approach may be more economical in systems with multiple field sites.
