Precision Irrigation Control System

Irrigate only when needed with EIT precision irrigation control system. The EIT irrigation control system uses telemetry for data collection and valve control ( no cables to worry about ) and sensors in the soil to report on exact soil moisture conditions. The control system will water plants based on plant water usage.

EIT irrigation control system is a data collection and SCADA based control system which utilises EIT data telemetry products as well as third party supplied soil sensors for monitoring and scheduling irrigation activities.

The system is designed for flexibility and ease of use. The Human Machine Interface ( HMI ) provides easy to use functions for setting an selecting irrigation modes and soil moisture set points.

The system comprises of three main components. These are the central PC, sensor for monitoring soil moisture and telemetry for data collection, valve and pump control.

PC main layout

Information on all irrigation areas may be quickly accessed from the main layout screen. Current soil water status is represented by way of bar style graphs and historical data represented by line graphs.

Irrigation solenoid valves are color coded on the computer screen to denote open / closed status.

Field data is collected by way of EIT telemetry devices which both collect data from soil moisture sensors and switch solenoid valves.

Setting soil moisture control.

Soil moisture is controlled to exact requirements. Each block may have different irrigation set points. Once you set these then the EIT irrigation management system will maintain soil moisture within your desired soil moisture bandwidth. Irrigation is initiated when soil moisture drops to the level of the lower red slider. The system will schedule irrigation based on the requirements of the irrigation area, water and the time available for irrigation. For example, if two blocks are extremely dry, then options are available to proportion available water between each block rather than completely filling the first block to the detriment of the others.

Soil moisture monitoring

Soil moisture may be monitored using various soil moisture sensors. These include Sentek EnviroSMART or Sentek EasyAg style soil sensors and those from other manufacturers providing sensors with SDI-12 , RS 485 or voltage output.

Data is collected from the soil probes using EIT solar powered telemetry devices. These devices operate in a polled mode sending soil data to the central PC whenever requested. Usually every ten minutes.

Data Display

The EIT IMS system provides powerful graphing tools for viewing trends in soil moisture. Data may be displayed in a 'stacked sensor style' or summed line type graphs. The trend lines allow the operator to gain insight into plant water use patterns this information can be used to adjust the IMS to optimize water use efficiency and plant production
