EIT radio based soil moisture monitoring system using
Sentek SDI-12 based multi level soil probes
Environment I.T. has developed special low power data transmitters for transmitting remote soil moisture data to a central data collection platform or weather station.

The EIT Universal data transceiver can be connected to the Sentek EnviroSCAN multi level soil probes. The EIT transceiver controls the power supply to sensor, sensor wake time and data collection via the soil probe SDI-12 data bus.

The transceiver encodes the soil probes'
SDI-12 data and transmits this information to an EIT data receiver at user defined intervals, The EIT radio receiver decodes the radio signal back to soil moisture data.  An EIT eTech data recorder connected to the radio receiver collects and stores this information for uploading to a PC for further analysis.

The data link between the field data recorder can be made by direct link, or the special EIT short range radio modem. In addition to collecting and storing soil data, the EIT data recorder can collect meteorological variables or data from a range of other sensors such as water level and quality.
